On the disappearance day of A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami, our Srila Prabhupada,
my beloved Srila Gurudeva, Srila Bhaktivedanta Narayana Goswami, left me wondering.
He quoted Srila Prabhupada saying, "Same wine, different bottle."
I wondered for the next decade or two, "which part of our bhakti practices were 'wine', essential truth? And which parts were "bottle" - external factors that support the core of bhakti?
I also wondered why our Acharyas always changed the bottle to fit time, place, and circumstance.
How would they change the bottle to **fit this day and age?
The result: This humble offering, Bhakti International.
I love and respect bhakti in all of its bottles. I do not criticize or condemn any other Vaishnava or group and genuinely respect all.
Yet with this offering, I present new bottles, ones I believe make more sense and are useful for many (not all) devotees in this day and age.

- He was given Sannyasa by Srila BV Narayana Goswami in 2009.
- In his quest to serve, understand, and separate social culture from essential bhakti, he consciously explores, studies, and engages with taboo subjects like finances, sexuality, relationships, social structures, markets, and more.
- Some consider this breaking Sannyasa, and some do not.
- He has gone DEEP into the philosophical and practical study of what is Sannyasa and considers himself to NOT have given it up. He is happy to have deep, sincere discussions about the subject and may do a video series about it at some point (let me know if you'd like that).
- However, he understands there is a material social expectation of the do's and don'ts of Sannyasi that he intentionally does not comply with.
- Yet, out of respect for the social order, he wears yellow Sannyasa cloth, as opposed to the traditional saffron.
- "Yellow cloth and 'The Maverick Monk' moniker is to say, 'I respect the orthodox social order, yet see a perspective that is outside these conventional expectations. So I leave it up to you. You may consider me a Sannyasi, or you may consider me as not part of the varnashram system.'
- He finds that those who care about the status hierarchy and are trying to compete say he is not, and those who don't care for that ego and just want to share bhakti don't harp on the issue.
- In any case, his old identity and name 'died' at the time of Sannyasa. The terms 'Maharaja' and 'Swami' are common last names in India, and the title 'Bhaktivedanta,' which was given to him by his guru, has historically also been given to non-Sannyasis.
- So you may still call him by the same names, regardless of what you choose to consider. So the joke is "my pronouns are he, Swami, Maharaja, Vishnu, Ji, Swamiji, Vishnuji, him, his, Maverick, Maverick Monk, Maverick Ji, Bogus Swami & Tumeric Swami. Aparadha pronouns are "her, mataji, Prabhu, Prabhuji, Dasa, Dasi, Didi, Maharani, Mata, any previous legal name or Devi Dasi,"
